Given that I am a self-proclaimed movie geek, my housemates decided to buy me a book all about Academy Award winners. We then decided to count how many Best Picture winners we had all seen. Who had seen the least? That's right, the one who insists on spurting out arbitrary Oscar trivia while everyone else is just trying to peacefully watch the same Friends repeat that they watched the day before. Feeling utterly disgusted with myself I made a vow to watch them all.

About three months has passed now and I am quite sure I have surpassed my housemates' tallies. However, while wiping the smiles off their faces was the initial motivation for this exercise, I have no doubt that I must complete my quest. At the bottom of this page there is a list of all the ones I've seen. While there has already been highs (Amadeus, 1984) and lows (Chicago, 2002) there is a long way to go, considering the awards go back to 1927.

There has been talk of my adventure being made into a movie; "One man. A lot of movies. Too much time to watch them all" was a tagline suggested by one of my associates. Maybe the movie will win best picture itself, and it'll be added to the list... that would be weird... kind of like having The Social Network as a movie you like on Facebook.

I've been keeping one of my housemates posted on the situation and he suggested that I keep a blog on my journey. So until Charlie Kaufman finishes that screenplay, here it is. I'll provide you with my unquestionable opinion on each movie as I watch them, and even throw in a cheeky review of one of the ones I've already watched from time to time. Enjoy.

Five hour library sesh with my boy Tom today (Economics for anyone that's even remotely interested in that). I find the only way I can watch movies is by splitting them into half hour/forty-five min chunks inbetween studying. Small matter of Champions League quarter finals this week... Tottenham currently 2-0 down... make that 3-0.
In more pressing news, the Uni library doesn't have The Last Emperor (1987) so next on the list is Platoon (1986). I don't like to know too much about a film before I watch it, because I think it can influence your opinion. However, I've been informed that it's about the Vietnam War, and also Charlie Sheen's in it. He's pretty popular at the moment so should be interesting.
